On behalf of the staff, researchers, scholars and visiting fellows at the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute (RJI), please accept this invitation to invest two September days so we can help you better see change and seed innovation in journalism, technology, communities, the First Amendment, privacy, security and ethics.
You are part of a select group invited as our guest to "Five Years Past / Five Years Forward: Next Steps for Sustaining Journalism" on Sept. 9-10 at RJI in Columbia, Mo. With your help, we will assess dramatic changes in storytelling, technology, research and journalism business models since RJI opened five years ago. Then we.ll meet in small groups to dive a little deeper and have an opportunity to share success stories and lessons learned in the new, always-changing landscape.
By joining us, you are part of a process which includes:
A pre-gathering exchange about your work, goals and needs, shared with other participants, so you will arrive with a clear agenda for collaboration and learning.
A chance for casual discussion with some key thought leaders in journalism and info-tech.
Time to connect with key centers of innovation at RJI and the Missouri School of Journalism -- one of the nation's oldest, largest and most respected --and tap them for help with your pressing sustainability issues.
An opportunity to move RJI's agenda for the next five years in directions that will help news organizations and individual reporters to prosper and deliver journalism that matters.
Why now? Because the news industry now knows that doing what we.ve always done won.t get the job done any longer. Because the relationship among news, information and technology needs balance and insight in the service of participatory democracy.
RJI is the premier place for middle ground between Silicon Valley, Wall Street and the Beltway. It's a place for focused reflection in superb, uncomplicated surroundings where some of the greatest leaders of American journalism have studied and taught. And since it's been five years since RJI opened its doors, we want to make sure to set a course for the next five that is informed by the needs of journalists, technologists . and the public.
